Charleston Sail Loft

About

Charleston Sail Loft was founded in January 2008. John Bowden, owner, sail maker and professional sailor, has been working in the sailing industry since 1997. He grew up sailing in Austin, Texas; started sailing competitively in his youth then at the College of Charleston and continues to race to this day.

While in Texas, he picked up many useful skills such as sail design, sail making, boat covers, awnings and much more. He has worked with several great sail makers, such as David Armatage who designed the Quantum Racing TP52 sails that were responsible for winning the TP52 Med Cup and World Championships and Terry Flynn who has won numerous world and national championships.

John brings new life to the sailing community in Charleston. His customer service is second to none. Since January 2008, Charleston Sail Loft has put over 30 new sails on 18 CORA, PHRF and One Design boats and looks forward to the future of sailing in Charleston. John hopes to see Charleston become a top sailing venue and is eager to support sailors, racers and cruisers.

He gives back to the community through sponsorships and volunteering with the following organizations, CORA (Charleston Ocean Racing Association), Charleston Community Sailing, the College of Charleston Sailing Foundation and many other local one design and PHRF fleets and yacht clubs.

About Quantum

A Delicate Balance Between Art and Technology..
The Quantum Sail Design Group's success is all about people. It is a direct function of the staff's talent and experience. While the staff includes world class sailors, the emphasis has been on attracting the world's best sailmakers. Ultimately, the success of our client's projects is based on the intimate, hands-on participation of a knowledgeable, experienced, sailmaker. As important as the technology is, it is the people that make that technology work

True to the founder's original principles, Quantum knows only one way to build a sail. Racing, Cruising, or anywhere in between, the design criteria might change, but the approach is the same. Every sail is the best that can be built. No expense is spared, no stone left un-turned. There is no tiered product line, no exceptions. Success is based on an unmatched level of attention to detail. Every client and every boat is treated as if they were part of an America's Cup project. The approach is straightforward; nothing short of perfection is acceptable. Just build the best sails.
